Cavanaugh Realtors
The Cavanaugh Realtors Building is one of the oldest buildings located in Culver City. It was originally a bank building with tall, elegant windows. Over the years, the building’s simple elegance had been covered up with a large metal green mansard roof and box signage. The owners participated in the Culver City Redevelopment Program, which provided funding for façade upgrades. We stripped the building of all additions and exposed the large window openings. Because we required a dropped ceiling at the interior to create an office environment, we designed cast stone decorative panels to fit into the upper part of the window openings, which served to support the building’s inherent elegance. The linear garden along the front of the building, by Pamela Burton and Company, transformed a dirt strip into a lush, green garden which enhanced the building and directed clients to the entrance. The garden was also designed to provide a barrier and deterrent to people waiting at the bus stop who, in the past, often chose to sit on the window sills and deface the building.
